Stayed at Zephyr with friends. Our room didn’t have a lock and I could feel the springs in the mattress. The food was questionable and the hygiene standards seemed to be nonexistent. If you can, I would avoid eating there - the walk into town is only 10ish mins. They provide great/affordable activities that are organised well and there is a good social vibe. Also the pool is awesome & drinks are cheap.
Great location with beautiful outlook over the forest and rolling hills.
Staff are very friendly and the place has a good vibe. They went out of their way to makes sure we arrived after an 18hr trip through demonstration lines; picking us up in town at 1:30am and doing a quick check-in process to get us settled.
Slightly on the more expensive side, but worth it for the atmosphere.
Room - quite tight, but clean. No aircon or curtains for privacy. I heard the deluxe option was nice.
Showers - clean ✅, outside, lucky if you get hot water, no undercover access.
Food - expensive for what you get and not great quality; some people got sick.
Tours - expensive
Great hostel with amazing pool with view. Good place to meet people. A few things that could be improved:
- they serve a large menu with many dishes, but most of them are not that tasty, as it does not taste like they use fresh ingredients. Better to serve a smaller, but fresh menu!
- the pool is such a nice place to chill, but the loud house music starting from 15:00 is disturbing.
- the showers switch from cold to hot all the time.
Overall, it was totally worth the money, but with these improvements it can be even better!
We took a private room for extra pay.
The room was not clean at all and stinky and extremely hot without A/C.
We used the laundry service which was quite expensive and the clothe came back even stinkier and not folded.
Some of the stuff was not friendly at all and some was.
The daytrip to Semuc Shampe was great but the vehicle was really bad.
They charge you to every little thing start with pool towels and hot water for own making coffee, I hated it.
Parts of the pool is broken which can get your feet cut.
Beside the location the place is just bad.
The worst hostel I have ever experienced. The staff is incredibly rude. They were 2 hours late to check me in because they hadn’t cleaned my room. The hostel is dirty and the food overpriced. Also, they make you leave your passport with them your entire stay. If you’re looking for an enjoyable time in Lanquin, I recommend you check out Greengos instead.
Beautiful hostel! A must add to your Central America itinerary. We had the 8 bed room, but the way the room is divided it felt more like a 4 bed dorm which was great. Clean and comfortable. You don’t really have any other food options besides eating there, but there’s plenty of tasty items to choose from.
We did the cave and Semuc Champey tour which was great. Only thing is, you have to carry candlesticks through the cave as your only source of light. It’s crazy! Hot melting wax dripping on you as you walk through a dark cave in swimming shorts, trying to climb and not slip is a recipe for disaster. Also so bad for the environment with the water visibly polluted from the wax. Must be shocking for locals who need to use the river out of necessity. Investing in some head-torches would make this tour much more safer, more enjoyable and better for the environment!
Beautiful location, with nice view, pool and jacuzzi. The private rooms are nice and comfortable. However, the food is very average and overpriced and service very average.
This lodge is placed in such a gorgeous location! I wish I would’ve stayed one more day to just stay on site and enjoy it. (We only went for two nights to enjoy a full day at Semuc Champey). They have a pool and jacuzzi that is always open. They truly think of everything: your room key is a water proof wrist band, you pay your tab (for food and drinks) when you leave, and there’s a bar in the pool. Also, the staff (especially the Guatemalans) were incredible nice, charismatic, and helpful. However, there is not AC in the private room we had, there were a good amount of bugs in our room (and in our bed), plus it is fairly expensive.
